From the very beginning of computer technics era mankind has been interested in creating software systems which would possess the ability to exist and operate in changing environment for a long period of time. In 1960s John von Neumann wrote his famous work “Theory of Self Reproducing Automata”, which was published in Russia in 1971.

Many works of outstanding Russian (soviet) and foreign scientists are devoted to problems of self-learning and automatic programming. At the same time such sciences as general systems theory, artificial intelligence and cybernetics are highly developed at the present. In addition to that, synergetics (which can be defined as a part of general systems theory) contributed much to understanding the phenomenon of self-organization.

Computer science is also on a high level nowadays and the potentialities of computing facilities and networks are almost unlimited. Even information systems with smart behavior appear (for example, multi-agent systems). But nevertheless, genuine self-organizing information systems do not exist nowadays (at least, we do not have any information about such software).

Therefore, some aspects are not realized, some mechanisms are not revealed, many ideas are not implemented. So that’s why we decided to launch our web site.

In the first place our web site is dedicated to the theoretical aspects of organization and creation of self-learning, self-organizing and developing systems. As far as possible we will demonstrate you the practical results of our research.

As an application domain we chose self-organizing information systems (SiS), which possess a number of advantages in comparison with other systems:
SiS contain data domain model which can be enhanced by the information about the system itself;
SiS perform limited set of operations (information gathering, data storage, data processing and providing access to data) and at the same time act as the basis for implementing many other systems;
SiS possess large possibilities to modification and adaptation on different levels, such as level of data organization, level of inquiry processing, level of data domain modeling, level of communication with environment, etc.;
formalization of SiS is perfectly made on basis of data base theory and query languages.
These allow us to concentrate on the mechanisms of self-organization and developing of systems and avoid carrying out numerous indirect researches.

Thereby, our research is aimed at revelation and implementing of the most powerful mechanisms of adaptation and maintenance of systems, which allow to create systems, possessing the ability to emerge, exist and operate in changing environment without human’s influence, but for the mankind benefit.
